The journey that brought me to coaching was not the one I first imagined. After a few years of a corporate career I began learning about coaching, and I knew that was what I wanted to do. But then everything changed. One minute I was going to become an executive coach and the next I found out I needed open-heart surgery. After surgery I started saying "yes" to everything – I sold all my possessions and began traveling and taking jobs in different parts of the world.
Six months after surgery I was training to become an executive/life coach, and I agreed to take a trip to the Himalayas. Saying "yes" to life had its advantages, and some big life lessons. It helped me start a small coaching and consulting agency back when no one knew what coaching was. I went on to coach and establish various businesses, and I consulted in direct sales and investment services, while living in Southeast Asia and in Europe. I later came back to a successful career in corporate communications, where, thanks to my coaching skills and business know-how, I was able to thrive.
Over the course of 15+ years consulting for Fortune 500 companies and strategizing on multi-million dollar business plans and brand stories, I learned that many individuals need help strategizing their own 'story' or career. I've been privileged to help my clients find ways to self-promote and expand their careers— with great success.
After promptings from clients (many of whom began referring to me as their 'personal strategist' and not just their coach), I decided I wanted to provide another level of support- to put coaching to use to help them champion their own stories. With the gift of support from PineRock, I'm able to serve my clients as a life coach and strategist while helping them reimagine their lives!

Why do I do this work? What is positive psychology? How does it enhance my style of coaching?
Think about a time you needed advice, a sounding board, or a bit of guidance. Seeking perspective, you consulted your inner circle - your partner, family member, friend, colleague, or boss. At one time or another, we have all needed a personal champion, advisor, or advocate.
But just like you, your inner circle is already a part of your current life model - perhaps at a time when you need to look outside of it.
For years, I’ve listened to executives and individuals yearning for support. Sometimes it can come from their inner circle, but often they want an ‘outside’ ear, an objective sounding board. The more I listened, the more I began reimagining my own role and how I could better support those coming to me for guidance.
From the Dale Carnegie training I pursued during my mid-twenties quest for confidence to coaching Results Unlimited and becoming a Certified Practitioner of Positive Psychology, I’ve gained invaluable tools to support my clients and associates.
What I have found is that people want to find a way through the daily stressors brought on by their jobs, the media, digital “connectivity”, lack of sleep, lack of vacations and lack of down time. I knew how all of this had affected me, so I decided to spend time to reimagine my life and career so that I could help myself and others. I got re-certified as a coach and began using tools from the field of positive psychology – the scientific study of happiness and well-being.
For the last few years, the most popular course at Yale, and Stanford has been not a business, economics or finance course – but a course on happiness. This is an indication of a collective craving for more inner peace, if there ever was one! But if the next generation is looking to be happier, what about past generations that never had access to courses on positive psychology? Scientific research shows that there are simple tools to help enhance our happiness, and we need to practice them.
